Booked the deal for our anniversary. Was a problem with the voucher at first but used live chat with Wowcher and they fixed it straight away. Deal was excellent value for money, room was lovely and dinner in the evening was great.

Great room on the 14th floor with lots of space & a view of Cardiff from two panoramic windows. Incredible bathroom & lots of cupboard space. Cosy dressing gown were a nice surprise. Breakfast was excellent & the hotel was very clean. We parked with ease under the hotel which was easy walking distance from the centre. Excellent value for money

Great for an overnight stay Great location. Friendly staff. Room was very clean & large, beds comfy. Good buffet breakfast - freshly cooked and good selection (£12 per person). Underground parking £21 for 24hrs for hotel guests. Appreciated the 12 o’clock check out too - so no rush.

Wonderful stay Booked for one night as a solo traveller, metered parking available on the road outside and it’s free 6pm-8am. I was luckily upgraded to the 15th floor. My room was huge and a super comfortable bed and large bathroom. My 2 course evening meal was lovely as was breakfast. The staff at the reception and restaurant were exceptional. Sadly I didn’t use the spa facilities. Well worth a visit and would re visit .

Long weekend away Great staff, great location, we loved the large rooms and mezzanine bar area; used the gym, pool and spa facilities which were attended by Catrin who showed us around the facilities and explained it all very well. The lifts were smooth and fast and there were three available. The room was spacious and peaceful - we’ve stayed before and will keep coming back.

The rooms on this deal really are amazing, the views from the windows are the best you’ll get in Cardiff. The rooms have a sitting area with 2 huge comfy chairs and a table for admiring the views! The beds are huge and one of the most comfy in Cardiff (we are frequent travellers. The bathrooms are stunning with a lovely big bath to soak in and a separate walk in shower. Sadly it’s just the breakfast that lets this hotel down. Not much choice of cooked items, what choice is there is either rock hard and over cooked and cold. Been using the groupon deals for a couple of years and still no mushrooms or black pudding! The choice of continental is sone what slightly better, I recommend the granola, add your own selection of dried or fresh fruits, some natural yoghurt, a drizzle of honey and your winning in life! The restaurant and bar areas are lovely, modern and clean, and so are the spa areas, which you can access for £10 each. This used to be free and included in the deal up until last year. Parking is average value for money and falls in line with similar 4 star hotels in the area. However it is under the hotel so it is super secure and you don’t get wet if it’s raining. We keep going back to this hotel for the various good points and just tend to use the cold buffet breakfast and head into town or the market for lunch instead. All in all it is a good deal though when comparing prices through the likes of booking.com, hotels.com and trivago etc.

This is a copy of the email I sent to customer service at the hotel. Despite receiving an acknowledgement, I am still waiting for their response: I have just left the Mercure Holland House Hotel after probably the worst overnight experience of my life. On entering the room I was allocated, it was apparent that the air conditioning wasn’t working as the room was sweltering. Also, the fact that all the curtains were closed, a portable (ineffective) air conditioning unit and a fan were operational and it was still unbearably hot. In fact, the outdoor air temperature was only 20 degrees. In the lift going down to reception other guests mentioned that the air conditioning wasn't working. A member of staff was sent up to offer an alternative room, however, they all had the same problem. In the end we opted for one that was marginally better. However, still unbearable. We had no time to find alternative accommodation as we had concert tickets, In fact we missed some of it due to the room issue and the 3 out of 4 lifts that were broken. At no time did a member of staff inform guests of the air conditioning malfunction, in fact they were in complete denial about the situation and seemed to be speaking from a pre-prepared script leaving deeply suspicious. They did know there was a problem because all 6 rooms I was shown as an alternative had curtains drawn, portable air conditioning units and fans switched on, indicating that the issue was not an isolated incident. I have stayed in this hotel many times and have witnessed a deterioration in standards, suggesting it needs urgent attention. You market it as a luxury brand, this is false representation.
